Alongside his studio practice, Martin Bigum has built a parallel role as a communicator of art, bringing his perspective into public conversation through writing and television.
In 2015, he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

For this Artist Edition, Bigum’s work is translated into form. The surface shifts from canvas to textile, from wall to movement. It allows the work to exist in changing light, in motion, in everyday situations that are rarely considered part of an artwork’s life.

The idea for this work began unexpectedly.
“I saw the actress Patricia Schumann wearing an earlier Sittingsuit, also based on a painting. I stopped her and said: who made that coat? You are a walking painting. I have always made my art to communicate with as many people as possible, without losing anything of the work. When people see this piece, they will step into a light blue space. Inside, swirling flowers with faces create an experience of their own.”
